  • This video was shot by Jon Malmerg at Crystal Mountain, and he shared it with me. I'm not sure what he shot it with. Glad this video is getting the respect it deserves. Tree wells are scary.

  • nice song selection

  • Great video to educate about tree wells! Ski smart and in sight....

  • @kimjkircher It was shot with the GoPro HD Hero

  • "The odds of surviving a deep snow immersion/NARSID (Non-Avalanche Related Snow Immersion Death) accident are low; especially if you are not with a partner. In two experiments conducted in the U.S. and Canada in which volunteers were temporarily placed in a tree well, 90% COULD NOT rescue themselves."

  • Whitefish MT, has had two tree well fatalaties earlier this year. I had my own head down burial in a well @ Homewood riding a snowboard many years ago. Lucky for me, I was with good friends looking out.

  • Glad you guys were ontop of it and thanks for sharing!

  • How long did it take to get him out?

  • Kim,

Whoops, double post... Go ahead and delete the last on. Also, for those asking... This was shot on my trusty Go Pro.

  • Jon Malmberg here... As you can hear, it was pretty funny at first. Then Anthony literally was swallowed up and gone in an instant. The mode turned pretty serious pretty fast. I teach at Snowperformance and we are extremely careful about observing backcountry protocol. I really felt that this needed to be shared as it shows how fast things can go from being light to life threatening.

Take care about there, know before you go, and always ski with a buddy and the proper avy gear.
