Mike Devose has moved his Karate to the next level. This is a very old video. He is now 21yrs old and holds 3 MMA Title Belts in 3 of the NW's biggest amateur organizations. He will soon be going pro. He started his training with Karate and did point sparring for fun. Probably a waste of time to comment on 4 year old videos, but anyways.... yes, point Karate is watered down garbage.. MMA has become the real test for a Karate practicioner to really test their abilities.

Looked you guys up and am a little irritated some of the instructors at Evolution claimed muay thai under Kelly Worden. Who did Kelly Worden learn muay thai under? I started muay thai in the Tacoma area in '97 under Alberto Ramirez and went on to Master Toddy, Luukchang, and Green who are Thai thaiboxing instructors and Master Cairnes.  Not once in kickboxing or muay thai fight cards thrown under the UFCF, MTIA in BC, etc. did I see a muay thai or kickboxer from Worden's gym.

@powerof0ne So someone, who is a Karate and Tae-Kwon-Do instructor, who's main background is in Karate and Tae-Kwon-Do took a small amount of Muay Thai and some boxing, and that irritates you? Worden taught a blended system, like many traditionalist do, I don't remember thier guys really doing any competition as a matter of fact, nor do I see it claimed anywhere to begin with. Our club primarily competes in MMA and karate events.

ok this is my last time picking on this video is it me both of these guys are suppose to be black belts but either one of them can put together more than a one piece combo but of them are like quarter backs throwing the ball off balance usually ends up in a interception

and one of the other problems is everyone wants there own kingdom there are more masters in Isshinryu then there are santa clauses at christmas time standing on the corners just because you dress up in red and white doesnt make you a santa claus or a master out of respect for master Shimabuku I will never where a master belt black is fine for me

karate today is like playing flag football because playing regular football is to rough I have broken fingers foot and hand chipped my teeth and bleed on the mat one thing for sure I can take a beating and deliver it and I am glad that I am old school matter a fact I am proud of it and if you come at me with bad form I will make you pay even if it means taken one of your weak hits

the other problem is that there handing out black belts like there candy it has taken me a life time to achieve what I have we didnt have this rainbow belt system out of hundreds of students my sensi has only issued five black belts and I am one of them and it is not just Isshinryu that is suffering these want to be students today could not even pass the sanchin kata the way we had to it was mentally and a physical beat down

my blocks are strikes it is just important to deliver a proper block than it is to deliver a punch seisan stance and bursting forward has the most power the power comes from the ground up hitting the nerves in the limbs is very effective but you have to have balance and self control to deliver it in the certain spots to be effective you have none of these Ive been training since 1984 my sensi is 3rd generation of Shimabuku teaching

first of all lets get something straight it is not the style because there is no bad style and it is not just Isshinryu that is suffering it is all the styles no one teaches old school students today dont even want to be hit they just want to play karate for instance punching someone in the strum-en how do you how much pressure to deliver if you never been hit there how do you deliver a punch leaping in the air delivering a punch off balance has no power and blocking has no power
