"I fear Allah will blame me..." - Imam Ahmad

This is a very poetic and wise saying by the great Imam Ahmad:

"I fear Allah would blame me for being too shameful to disobey Him, while being devoted on hiding my sins from people".

Imam Ahmad said (in simpler words) He was scared that on the day of judgement, the only excuse he could give to God (for not sinning) was the fear of others finding out.

So ask yourself, how many times did you stop yourself from sinning when fearing what people will think?
And than ask yourself how many times did you stop sinning when fearing what Allah will think?

This number may seem big to us , however it is not strange considering he was the called the Imaam of Ahlus-Sunnah.
