Bill was my teacher and my friend.I met him in 1990 when getting certified in Oregon. He is missed by many.A very special person and my tv series is dedicated to him.

to be fair, I recall Bob mentioning Bill as his mentor on the earlier shows a few times

I don't know about the shows, but I know the dedication to Bill in the earlier books has been edited in out. It would only appear in older printings.

It always bothered me that Bob didn't credit Bill with having developed the technique and teaching it to him. He also copied his style and mannerisms, though much lower key. I realize Bob wanted to also cash in on it, but to allow people to think he had developed the method is unethical as far as I was concerned. He was lucky Bill didn't haul his ass into court. But Bill was an old man and too classy to be bothered by it, but his method made Bob a wealthy man.

Bill did OK money wise. He sold a lot of paintings and he had a really successful television show. He won an Emmy, and no other TV artist can say that.
There were credits given to Bill at first, but later on the credits to Bill disappeared. In several of Bob's early shows he can be seen using Bill's paints and brushes. It's clear where the refined techniques and tools came from.
I wish there was a lot more credit given to Bill.

@PandawdyBob Updated to add: The Bob Ross website, even now, does not give an accurate story. It simply says that Bob developed his own technique after seeing Bill on television. He didn't just see Bill on television. He worked for Bill.
