FF IX Excalibur II Perfect Game - Part 6: Plant Brain

Killing Zidane pushes the battle into the second stage automatically, where Plant Brain has less HP and thus requires less attacks to die. The fight could've ended one round sooner but he's not the main concern.

Those of you who are familiar with the Level One game know that you must encounter only 2 Plant Spiders on the way out to prevent anyone from gaining a level, but my copy of the game loves to give me 3 or 4 of them. After beating Plant Brain about 16 times I only had 3 encounters with two: once when doing the practice run (figures) once when Zidane got killed (although I didn't realize that three survivors will work too at the time) and once again for the final successful run.

I don't know why the world map looks so terrible, but it's my POS VCR's fault. Well, there are no encounters on the world map while the nameplate is displayed which is nice, but you also can't save until a few seconds after it disappears. =/

If you dont wanna steal the iron sword, it´s easier to steal the broadsword from the cage, and then swith weapon with blank...

It still takes longer than just buying one... it's not like Gil is scarce, even in a level one game.

OK, I just completed this segment with a time of 52:49. I somehow managed to accumulate almost two minutes of lateness over the last two segments, I was at 33:13 when I hit Prima Vista, but there doesn't seem to be a way to improve the crash site or forest.

Guess I'll make up the time later on... got super lucky with the Plant Brain segment, destroyed it on first attempt!

ff9 is such a good game. i just love how everything looks and the music. i also like the fact that every character has there own unique fight style so you can actually choose specific people because you need them for a specific purpose.

I got hugely lucky, when it gave me two Plant dudes on the second try. Of course the past parts getting no encounters took about 2 hours but hey no use crying now (:
