The City of Elgin, Illinois is a very diverse community just outside Chicago. And when the city wanted to promote its culturally diverse community, they turned to Demi & Cooper Advertising to create print, TV and outdoor materials.

Since we were working with a very limited budget we chose to create something that people might talk about -- thereby extending the lifespan of the commerical. The concept had to be a little risky but still convey the right attitude in a fun way.

We had over 60 Elginites "kiss," and we filmed at our offices in Elgin. In one afternoon we taped people of all races, ages, religions and orientations pretending to kiss one another. From a logistical standpoint alone, getting 60 people to do anything in a few hours is a challenge -- but we organized it so tightly that it appeared to be easy.

Demi & Cooper Advertising Wins Three Telly Awards for Elgin's "Kissing" TV Commercial

NEW YORK, NY June 25, 2007—Demi & Cooper Advertising has just won three Telly Awards for a 30 second TV commercial promoting Elgin's diverse community. Over sixty people of all ages, races, religions and orientations who work or live in Elgin were filmed "kissing" as way of illustrating how diverse and culturally-friendly Elgin is. "When we were challenged with creating a memorable TV spot for the City of Elgin, we kicked around a lot of ideas. And when the president of the agency, Charles Falls, suggested having dozens of strangers 'kiss,' nobody was sure we could get it done, much less pass it by the committee responsible for approving the spot!" said Marc Battaglia, Senior Art Director and Director of the Elgin TV spot. "But in the end we found a way to make it all work, and the response from everyone was really positive and enthusiastic; everyone had a lot of fun! Getting sixty people to do anything in one afternoon was a challenge, but we organized it so well that it appeared to be easy!"
