The Promised Land (1967-68)
Martin Luther King stakes out new ground for himself and the rapidly fragmenting civil rights movement. One year before his death, he publicly opposes the war in Vietnam. His Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) embarks on an ambitious Poor People's Campaign. In the midst of political organizing, King detours to support striking sanitation workers in Memphis, where he is assassinated. King's death and the failure of his final campaign mark the end of a major stream of the movement.

  • I just cried and cried during this episode.

  • Awesome documentary. As a Memphian, I was not born at 1968 but no doubt in mine Henry Loeb was the worst mayor Memphis ever had. Memphis is no where close to Atlanta, Nashville, Charlotte is terms of advancement partly of this innocent leader's blood and the establishment has never changed

  • King's stat on what was spent fighting Vietnam versus fighting poverty is startling and truly offensive. And yet, 45 years later, on and on it goes.

  • Romans 8 verse 19

  • magnificiant

  • what's the deal w/the audio? This seems to be the only one without audio
