Another "you gotta be kidding me" moment from the 2003 Ponderosa Stomp festival. My band was doing a rockabilly set backing up Billy Lee Riley, when the promoter Dr. Ike came up to the stage and informed us that Billy was going to do some blues with three guys who played and recorded with the legendary Slim Harpo! Rudy Richard on guitar--yes, the man who ACTUALLY played the "Baby Scratch My Lick" hisself, Legendary swamp pop singer and session drummer Warren Storm on drums, and King Lloyd on bass...Billy Lee Riley switched to harmonica, and I tried to hold along for the ride. Did this really happen? Sometimes I ask myself and I can't believe it.
I played this tune with Lazy Lester a few hundred times and he always called Slim Harpo his brother-in-law. Excello is a beautiful label!!

Otis Redding with Booker T and the MG's did the second best version of this I ever heard besides the original. BTMG'S also cut this on their own. Listen to what Steve Cropper does on both of 'em. It's great.
