It was a cold, cold winter then. The ice was strong enough for the 'Elfstedentocht' a strenuous arduous skating tour and match calling on eleven cities. In Amsterdam in the Vondelpark many a snowman was born. Nowadays all this does not happen very often or at all.

  • Gosh yes 1963! When "horses froze in the fields".

I came back to this freezing weather aged 7 from Singapore. My memories of the West formerly replaced by the East were suddenly turned around once more. Duffle coats hoods & woolen trousers replacing flipflops and shorts! Michael's lovely photos say it all. Cheers & Happy Xmas from London...ps I recall that trains in the UK in that bitter 1963 winter still ran ok and remember coal fires in station waiting rooms were soooo cosy.... 'gezellig'!

  • beatifull photos!!!.........as always when Michael is with a camera.....

  • Great photo's.
