Lyrics Below
This Triaxle song parodies Peter "The Punt" Robinson ,who is the First Minister in Stormont. He led a mob of several hundred masked and weapon carrying Loyalists in a sinister invasion of the tiny village of Clontibret in Co. Monaghan on the night of August 7th 1986. 2 Gardaí were injured and various acts of vandalism were carried out. Peter Robinson narrowly escaped a Prison sentence by paying a fine of £17,500 earning him the nickname Peter "The Punt"
Of Robinson, the judge at his trial said: "He could have distanced himself from them when he realised that some of the group were masked and armed and therefore likely to engage in violence."
'Twas in the month of August, in the Year of '86,
When a group of Northern Visitors, came down to the "26"
They stopped in Clontibret, got into a fight
Sure we thought it was the bingo, they came for that night!
(Chorus -
So it's down to Monaghan, came the boys from the DUP
Peter Robinson and his Merry Men came "Céilidhing" o'er ya see
They overran our little town, All In Ulsters name,
You'd Swear that Oliver Cromwell was on the scene again )
Now the Gardai were on Patrol, travelling round their Beat,
When they met the Northern Visitors marching down the Street
Red White and Blue and Missiles, were coming from all around
Sure they thought they'd took a wrong road and landed in Portadown!
Chorus
Poor Peter was arrested and brought to the local nick
He said "I've got my rights, so hold on a tick"
"I am allowed a phonecall" loudly he did cry
and it's not for a lawyer but me wive's Ulster Fry!
Chorus
And Ian was on the blower when he heard tell of the din,
he said "I understand Peter, make sure you don't give in "
"I'll send to you my Bible, you can take it in your hand"
Said Peter "not a Bible, but Ten Bloody Grand!"
Chorus
Banjo Bridge
And in the Criminal Court in Dublin, he pleaded his defence,
"15 Grand" the judge replied,"You'll get another chance"
"You can go back home to Antrim, your freedom to enjoy
but the next time that you come, you'll be staying in Mountjoy!"
Chorus
Now Peter's back in Antrim, In the arms of his wife
He broadcast to the Media "I Escaped with my Life"
So our advice to Peter, to cause no further fuss
The next time that he comes, make sure it's the Ulsterbus!
Chorus
Oh yes , you'd swear that Oliver Cromwell was on the scene again!
my dad is from Mongaghan town. I've been there, when I was a kid in the mid 80s, but nowhere else in the county.
how far away is Clontibret from there?

about 6 miles OR - would have been some craic if he tried coming into the town with that mob rather than a tiny village !
