Impromptu Tribute "Set" for Neil Pritikin (d. December 14, 2009) by his daughter Karin; recorded at Katarina's in Chicago (Piano: Vasilis Gaitanos) Thank you Vasilis and lovely Katarina for letting me honor my Dad in this way!!!
Song: Aspri Mera
I would like to close my small tribute to my father with a song that was - in many ways a hymn or a psalm both for him and for me.
My father, as you may have intuited, was a complicated man. His life was not easy, not was he. Nor am I.
He met the world head on - always intense, often angry - but he was an optimist at heart. A master dialectician, he used his uncanny ear to try and build bridges between people. Our politics were very different, but our intentions could not have been more alike. For we both believe that better days are coming for us all which is the title and the message of this
song:
Aspri Mera (Better Days)
I will water with my teardrops
Those bitter times, those sad summers,
That I had to spend with you.
With lifeless doves (hopes)
My skies each dawn were filled.
I will return, sad (Virgin Mary) Papa,
Farewell, weep not.
Do not let your grieving heart get you down.
Just say, "Never mind,
A brighter day will dawn for us".
