If you can avoid using paint-stripper, do so. The chemical is catastrophic for the environment.

What about removing lead paint? Would I need to take extra safety measures to not spread lead around my home?

Excellent device- I could of used that machine on a floor that was painted with about 5 coats of paint and the floor sander would just gum up. Next time I will not hesitate to purchase this machine.
