Software and hardware design of an ECG display. This is for a prototype that is part of the Vital Signs project at the Institute of Biomedical Engineering, Imperial College, and part of Material Beliefs. The simulator was built in Processing then ported to Arduinio, this uses Kingbright LED matrixes and a Maxim 5x7 LED driver. I say "silly" repeatedly at 12 seconds in, for sure the highlight of this short film.

  • which microcontroller was used? would it be possible to share the circuit diagram? we're trying to build an ecg for developing countries. thank you.

  • hi,

no controller on this board, just the LEDs, drivers, an SPI socket for driver control.

At the other end of the SPI bus is an Arduino Nano. No ECG sensor here, it was designed to display data sent from a product called Sensium.

Links below for you. Tell me more about your project?

    bests,

    Tobie

  • Further to my previous reply, looks like YouTube will not allow URLS in posts.

Google "vs_heart_v2.pdf" to find a circuit diagram, "Arduino Nano" for the microcontroller and "Sensium" for the platform I was linking to.

  • The "Sensium Digital Plaster" is a very interesting platform for health monitoring, both short and long term. Please take a look at the Toumaz website.

  • Thank you. We're developing an ecg device out of e-waste for developing countries. We need to figure out what components we need to use (for hardware), also we're trying to make it wireles (so that the data can be transmitted from a remote location to an urban location, where a doctor will be able to interpret the ecg). Do you have any ideas on what wireless technologies we could use? (we were thinking about Ham, but that requires licence...)....

  • i like how the music beat was in sync with the tweetingof the machine

  • Very nice!
