Kendall Cedric Gill (born May 25, 1968 in Chicago, Illinois) is a retired American professional basketball player, now professional boxer and sports analyst. Gill was chosen in the 1990 NBA Draft with the fifth overall pick by the Charlotte Hornets, and was named First Team All-Rookie for the 1990-91 season. Kendall also participated in an NBA Slam-Dunk Competition. Gill played in 15 seasons in the NBA for the Hornets (including two separate stints), Seattle SuperSonics, New Jersey Nets, Miami Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves, Chicago Bulls, and Milwaukee Bucks. In two different seasons Gill averaged over 20 points per game, first as a second-year player for the Hornets in 1991-92 (20.5 ppg), and again for the Nets in 1996-97 (21.8 ppg). In the 1997-98 NBA season, Gill led the league in steals as a member of the Nets. On April 3, 1999, he recorded 11 steals in a game against Miami, tying Larry Kenon's single-game record. Gill's career totals include 12,914 points in 966 regular season games. As a means to maintain his conditioning, Gill took up boxing, eventually entering the professional ranks. Gill had his first bout on June 25, 2005 at the age of 37, and has won all three professional bouts and is ranked #449 in the world (out of 745) as a cruiserweight.

  • very unselfish player. when the nets drafted keith van horn, kendall gill sacrificed his game to bring the rookie into the system. kendall gill could have been a perennial 20 ppg scorer in the league if he wanted to take a lot of shots.

  • i was thinking the same thing, about him playing for every team in the NBA.....BUT he was an average/good player. and remember that he played in the 90s, where the NBA was filled with great players and played REAL DEFENSE (not like now, u sneeze on a player and its a foul)...if he played in this era he would be very very good. the 90s was a tough league, now-a-days the game just gecame soft.

  • Gill was always a fave of mine but he was constantly destroyed by Jordan - I kinda felt sorry for him because of that - but Mike never blinked an eye about it

  • @Lcacique Good stuff! In 1993-94 REGULAR season, we were sky high in Seattle when Gill arrived. We were crushing the Washington Bullets IN Washington early in the season, Gill drove to the basket, went in nonchalantly, flew in, then did a one-handed right hand cocking up and down, then slam dunk! I had such high hopes for Gill.

  • @onblock7 Thanks! It wasn't intentional, but I've really lost much touch with the NBA after the Sonics left Seattle. It's just that I don't have 60-70 games with a local team to follow, so I just inevitably lose touch with players who play for other teams.

  • @abysmalatrocious Good stuff man! Seems like you remember alot about this game.

  • @abysmalatrocious I have a tape that I converted to DVD of the Sonics playing the Suns. Gill has an awesome play where he is going up for a jumper deep on the baseline and someone is coming out to block the shot. Instead of traveling or getting his shot blocked, he follows through with his shot motion but purposely shoots it much lower so it hits the defenders elbow, bounces back to him and he dribbles to an open spot and hits the shot. A really crafty play.

  • @Lcacique I'm Seattle born and raised, and 38 now. I blame George Karl's ego for running Gill out of town. I loved Hawk, but Gill was said to be a budding superstar back in 1992.

  • @mrlefty8 Funny you mention that, I'm thinking of ordering a throwback Sonics 13 Gill jersey! He didn't pan out for us (I blame egomaniac George Karl), but he was an exciting player.

  • @drpepper4413 Was that as a Seattle Sonic? I remember that regular season game, if we're thinking of the same one. I'm 38, born and raised in Seattle.

  • @onblock7 I'm 38, born and raised in Seattle, Sonics and Blazers fan, so I'm rather familiar with names like Daaaalllllle.....Ellis, Kendal Gill. When I learned to shoot ONE-handed, I tried to emulate Ellis' form. I was so pumped in 1993 when we got budding star Kendall Gill. Belive it or not,I went to USC from 91-93, played pickup with Baby Jordan, and he tried to teach me how to shoot (I still shot two-handed until I was 19).

  • @VeoShock Make one of Sean Elliott for me man lol, naw just playing but he was one of my fave players in the 90's spite a few down years in Detroit and later with that Kidney problem :( I remember all these guys from Dale Ellis, Kendal Gill, Sherman Douglas (LOL), Harold BABY JORDAN MINOR (What a mistake of a nickname), Chuck Person (Rifleman), Del Curry and so many more names! Man I loved the NBA then and grew up on it. Most remember MJ or Pippen or blah blah blah, I remember all!
