  • I drove one of these 52's from Ohio, down to Bragg back in the late 1980s. It had a Mack engine in it. We used to put the pork-n-beans or whatever the "main component" of the MRE was, up against the valve cover for a couple hours to heat up our lunch.....lol.

  • @DocRevo well you must have had both...different engines...

  • thats not an 818...the air cleaner is on the wrong side...mabye a 52...the predessor of the 818

  • That's an M52A1 or A2. The M818 replaced these and has the air cleaner on the left fender and isn't turbocharged.

  • Okay, now I'm confused ---based on the comments here about M52 / M800 series and the airfilter housing being right or left side, I just went through a bunch of old pics from my unit and found that we had 'em on either side and all of our trucks where 800 series as far as I know. Where m52 types still in service through the mid- 90's?? All I know for a fact is my truck 's data plate said M818 and the filter was on the drivers side.

  • thats because they run the 250 cummins, much better than the 465 multifuel which this on has and the one that my freind has, but still fun to have.

  • sorry bud, that is a M52A2. Not a M818

  • it is a M52 and not a M818. The 818 has the airfilter on the left side and the front of the hood looks differend. Greetz from Germany.

  • wrong, M818... they were the next generation 5 tons (809 series)... we have some at my old unit with a delivery date of june 1st, 1969 haha.... damn good trucks
