Austrian economics is, in fact, economic science. To understand this takes a bit of work, however, in the philosophy of science and what, exactly, legitimately qualifies as being "science" in the realm of studying human behavior.
Whatever adherence to free market principles that one witnesses in Austrians, is born not of "faith", but of reason.

How can you prove something that we didn't do would have been better? The depression of 1920 comes to mind. It was over in 18 months and was in ways worse than the first year of the great depression. What did we do to end it quickly? We cut (yes, cut) gov't spending by 50%.

You ought to read his book Crash Proof, obviously he is generalizing for the audience, but he does explain some of the things the government does. Like implied guarantees on Fannie Mae and Freddie mac and how that led to distortions in gauging risk. By virtue of approaching the field of economics as a science you are automatically at a disadvantage, a person is far better off approaching economics from a behavioral perspective. I will send you a paper describing why government is so harmful.

People who doesn't believe what Peter is speaking about, are ether very naive or extremely stupid. Just listen to what he has for-casted before.
