the French not only opposed the Iraq war but actively tried to undermine the effort in the days weeks and months leading up to the conflict. it was proven after words that then French president Jacques Chirac was essentially taking money from Saddam along with Putin and German Chancellor Schroeder. anti French sentiment was very high around this time; we saw the whole ''freedom fries'' movement
