@ivangraphics ahh ok, thanks for the quick responses, I'll keep messing around with it and see if I can get something to work.

@Capeau Not possible at the moment ; You create a composite map slot, put 1 noise map at the bottom, and 3 gradient ramp maps above it. each of the gradients is white in the middle and black at the edges (on the left and right). One gradient is rotated 90 degrees on the x axis (it's in the gradient ramp map settings, on the top left of the map dialog box) second is 90 degrees on y axis, and third is rotated 90 degrees on z axis. You blend them with Linear Burn method. Good luck.

hm, any chance of you sharing the map you used? Im having a hard time replicating your settings...

@Capeau Thanks! Practically you are correct, but i used "composite" map with two noise maps in it, gives more random cloud shapes. Also on top of the 2 noises, i used 3 gradient maps, blending between them all, gives a nice, seamless 3D box falloff instead of the vray fog falloff which keeps the ambient box gizmo visible, and allows good control over the top and bottom falloffs, which are essential for cloud shape.

how did you get such nice shaped clouds?
What map did you use in which slot?
Is this a standard noise map in the density slot?

@izvarzone This scene in particular, about 1-2 hours. But it's on low settings.
looks great! how do you get rid of the flickering? I've been trying to render out some fog but the flickering is insane and I have the settings cranked up. AA min 3 max 8, fog subdivs 128, light subdivs 32, and adaptive threshold at .008. It would be awesome if you could possibly take a look, you can see the render on my channel.

@mckronic I didn't i think its impossible to get rid of any flickering in Vray :D but i haven't played with high res settings yet.... I would try to precalculate the secondary bounces the way you do with static interior scenes, for camera flight troughs. Maybe it will work...

@ivangraphics I'm not rendering with GI, the scene has 1 area light. youtube.com/watch?v=LKeVws65qnw&list=UU4T7nAgQZMxvvDjhWcKm9Nw&index=1&feature=plcp

@mckronic Em i donno than, didn't play with it much really, i know i always had this problem, even when using regular max's volume light, it also had flickerings... :(
