@Elevationary .How many Romans do you think were in Britain? After the initial hostilities, they settled down to ruling the country not ravaging it. Most of the native people quickly became Romanised, started living in villas, and speaking Latin! Genetically they were still Britons! As for Ireland, don't even go there--my maternal family is Irish; thank goodness we don't have perpetual chips on our shoulders! Or are blinkered--the ancient Irish did a fair bit of invading and slavery themselves!
@sonofherne ,but what you dont see,is that the children they left behind after the fall of the roman empire, (blood)and went on to kill gaels, scots,Ireland later on in life, its still resident today, when ever there is war of one country on another,or continent, women are raped, and the foreign blood changes the face of that culture,Northern ireland is a example of that, its like Criminals raping an innocent culture and spoiling the future, there is a natural balance that lives in harmony if untouched
@sonofherne I think it should be rebuilt,Erosion is not something that ends, its a constant process, like time, but tell me what does it matter if they were not peaceful??,how do you know they were not peaceful?,Did you know that the Romans raped and pillaged virgins by holding them in the air with there legs apart, you would not believe what they did, they were animals.
@Elevationary I read these 20+ years ago and they are FICTION, as Bradley says in her foreword. Too many believed it to be fact and she knew it wasn't! She's an American who has never set foot in Britain, let alone is not regarded as any kind of expert in archaeology or anthropology. 3 things that are wrong in her books. Celts never worshipped a great mother, but many gods. They weren't peaceful. There was never a stone circle on Glastonbury Tor.... Please don't quote this tripe to me.
@sonofherne there are two books you need to read, one is called "the Mists of Avalon" and there is another called "Priestess of Avalon, by Marion Zimmer Bradley and Diana L Panson,i want to read a passage on page 87 of "priestess of Avalon,im holding the books right now!" Ever flowing, ever growing from the earth to the sea, ever falling ever calling, ever coming to be.....,Ever living, ever giving, all my children are free;ever turning ever yearning, they return unto me......"
@TheKaylem To be more accurate, they carbon dated the organic matter under the stones, the human remains around them, and did a petro-chemical tests on the stones themselves.
@Elevationary Where did you read that? In ancient cultures it's true there was more equality, but they were stratified. Women did not rule the roost. This is a modern concept born out of fantasy writing purporting to be historic fact. Even if a culture worshipped a great goddess it didn't mean women had an elevated status. Look at the irish who used to worship Mary! Please, please read some decent books if you are interested in this subject. Don't rely on getting your info from the net.
@Elevationary What do you mean disappear? This is another myth. Theyre genetically the same as us now, theyre our ancestors. The stones fell out of use around 1500bc due to various cataclysms, but essentially the religion changed, not the people. Paganism is an old religion. Neo paganism isn't. It's a reinvention using bits of many mythologies. Many modern pagans don't even worship gods of the same culture anymore. Please don't rely on getting your facts from Wikipedia! It's written by anyone.
@kopynd It was complete. Over half the monument was robbed for stone over the last 1000yrs. People would do themselves a favour by reading a decent book efore making absurd comments.
