As much as I respect and rely on Bill's analysys, I disagree with his conception of gnostics, specially when he says gnostics and freemasons are one and the same.
Freemasons openly worship the Great Architect, creator of the world, when gnostics identify creation with a lesser deity they call 'the demiurge', whose creation is a prison for aspects of the higher, true God which exists within us all regardless of creed and color. The purpose of the gnostic is to escape materiality, not worship it.
