When a teenage synthesizer is faced with an unexpected addition of rotary faders, she enlists the aid of Bill Holland in finding the unborn synth sounds a suitable home in this coming-of-age Gearwire demo. Roland Juno Alpha 1 (Ellen Page) may seem wise beyond its years, but after plugging into classmate Behringer BCR2000 (Michael Cera), the synthesizer quickly realizes how little it knows about life.

Thankfully, Juno Alpha 1 has been blessed with a great manufacturer (J.K. Simmons and Allison Janney) who trust their synthesizer's capabilities, and a best friend named Bill Holland who is always willing to help out in a pinch. With a little help from Bill Holland, Juno Alpha 1 comes in contact with more rotary knobs (Jason Bateman) and more realtime modulation options (Jennifer Garner) -- an affluent rotary controller unable to conceive sounds on their own.

The Behringer BCR2000 Rotary controller seems like it would make a great controller and is eager to adopt Juno Alpha 1's untapped potential. Now, as adolescent Juno Alpha 1 is faced with a series of very gritty bass line patches, it will draw on the support of Bill Holland and the BCR2000 in order to discover its full potential and discover that only having one single rotary knob can have a lifetime of consequences.

  • So I bought an Alpha Juno 2. The presets kinda suck but after you tweak it. oh baby, this sounds great.

One complaint, I can't figure out how to make the "What the...." patch usable. At least on the Alpha Juno-2, velocity affects the pitch, making it impossible to play any melody on it.

  • I got you! Click on the env. tab on the right. It should be next to brilliance. Then, use the alpha dial to take the arrows on the lcd screen all the way to the left. This should give you the "charly" and "dominator" hoover.

  • Bill, You don't need to reply to every bit of criticism. Instead keep making synth movies.

  • good point. I was just cleaning out the inbox.

  • i got the juno2, the presets are 80s cheesey whack shit, but when you make your own sounds this synth is the shit!

  • @gearwire I have an alpha juno and I don't know what the hoover sounds like and I never want to hear it! Thanks for the video. Its helping me decide whether to get a BCR2000 or whether to stick with the presents and just keep on lengthening the envelope and making sigur ros keys sounds ONLY. Thanks again.

  • Does the Alpha Juno One have slide?

  • I have completely missed this device; OMG!!! I even sold my Ensoniq SQ80 because of the lack of control surface! I have a JD 990 so I have to buy one and test it; it's just crazy...and a well kept secret. I don't get it though how this thing can learn the parameters; does every single (older) synth send every parameter change to its Midi Out port and then they receives the same Midi data? I mean they used to say the Midi implementation on older synths (tex Rol. JX3P) sucked. Some info on this?

  • The video description is insane!

  • I have also your 'Cyborg freesebee society 1984' t-shirt :)

  • Is there anyway you can assign the Brilliance, Mod Rate etc? Cheers

  • @brandonelliot After some research I found I does. Do a search here for : JX8p+BCF2000

Slider version but the knob version is the same which I what im going to get. Screw the guy who wants $450 for the pg800

  • @shckltnebay No, not yet :-(

  • @brandonelliot Have you got a responce to you question?

  • Like a dummy, I sold a mint-condition Alpha Juno 2 a few years ago... Now i'm struggling trying to get another lol... In the meantime, I got a Roland JX-8P 7 i've fallen in love with it... So can this Behringer BCR2000 be a substitute for the PG800 (which is the oh-so-hard-to-find programmer for the Roland JX-8P??)... From watching this, my guess is YES :-) If i'm wrong, let me know... Otherwise, i'm sold :-) THANKS GEARWIRE!!! -B
