  • @kirk7524875248 Actually I know these monks very well and they're very much alive and in touch with everything. The sound of their chant may be monotonous to you, however the energy felt in the room when one is present is undeniably powerful, especially when one chants along with them in Pali.

    Metta.

  • These monks are very alive. Each of them is unique - I'll describe one of them - the second one from the left, Ajahn Acksorn meditates six or more hours a day. He literally glows and you know he is coming around the corner before he comes - he exudes peace from every pore. This chanting is simply training of the mind, in order to calm the mind - to prepare for meditation. It's quite peaceful, that's why I chant with them at the temple. Anyone is welcome to join, daily 8am and 8pm. Metta

u r really a truthful buddhist ; but chants some time concentrate mind ; u r 100 percent correct because buddha said not to do useless practice and not to do idol worship but with time this so called hinayana tradition was changed to mahayana tradition --------- so u r a great buddhist and follow purest form of buddhism . but it also is true that with practice people started losing their memory about various techniques of meditation , so that is the reason ;we have buddha idols

  • @goodmangillmanpharma I'm no great Buddhist. I don't claim to be a Buddhist. I study the teachings of the Buddha. Some day perhaps I can call myself a Buddhist, but not today. My mind is too confused. Metta.

  • The first part "namo tassa bhagavato arahato samma sambuddhasa" is saluting the Buddha.

The second part is the refuges in the triple gem.

The third part sounds a little like the precepts.

    After that, I don't know.

  • Beautiful l really hope Buddhas teachings spread throughout the world

  • really beautiful... just been to thailand and heard this live in a temple for the first time... i'm very impressed, thanks for posting!

  • @Mawkish1983 I'm not sure whether it's called the precepts in English. However, to sum up briefly, the third part means 'Besides the triple gem, I have no other refuges. By these true words of mine, may all glorious be with you'... Or something like that.

The fourth and fifth parts are also to praise the triple gem and let the power of triple gem protect you.

From the six part (Asevana ja palanang, pandittananja sevana...) onward, most of what they are chanting are the teachings of Lord Buddha.

  • You know monks are not allowed to marry, or even touch a woman. Well once one asked my Auntie out !! :L

  • How can someone here call what someone else is doing as "useless?" How do you know that these monks get nothing out of this? Just like your biased opinionated post here has value to you but maybe not others right? I find your post of little value other than to point out how someone is so self-centered which is very common in the West. So, thank you for that.

  • @icansolvetheproblem For people who seeks energy and power rather than liberation from suffering due to ignorance just add more suffering to the world. I have never heard that the Buddha was changing. This is chanting is one of those politicing (control) such faith which its aim is to liberate us all from suffering.

  • They are not saying blah blah blah if u dont know itz meaning than find out what they mean and this is not a "ritual".
