OBAMA JUNIOR FRATERNITY TEACHER TALKS

Terrance Vick gives 1st interview with NBC Action News Anchor Lisa Benson about the youtube video controversy that resulted in his suspension from his teaching job at the Urban Community Leadership Academy where he mentored and educated a group of young men on how to excel in academics and started a sports program at the public charter school. At a time when there is a major shortage of male teachers in inner city schools, here we have a dedicated male teacher in Mr. Vick, who educated his male students about Barack Obama, who at the time the video was recorded, was on the verge of becoming the 1st African American candidate to be the presidential nominee of a major political party and is now the 1st African American to be elected President of the United States of America. Mr. Vick gets punished for making a positive impact on the lives of these young men by teaching them to strive to be more than rappers and athletes in which he used President Elect Obama as an example. I can only imagine the negative impression that Mr. Vick's suspension for doing the right thing--that you're condemned if you do and condemned if you don't. I'll bet dollars to donuts that he'd still have his job today had he taught those boys to dance to a negative degrading rap song. This is why we want to take these young men to Washington, DC to let them know that doing right will be rewarded and to show how proud we are of them for working so hard to learn the lessons Mr. Vick that taught them. Terrance Vick, the teacher in question here, was arrested in 1998 for selling cocaine and served time in prison. He teaches at an "alternative" school because his teaching license was suspended (per law) due to his felony conviction.

I think it would be interesting to catch up with the students in this video four years from now and see how many are in college pursuing their dreams of becoming chemical engineers, entrepeneurs, etc.

I am APPALLED to find this video! Not only because of the "praise Obama" message, because the teacher of these students, Terrance Vick, was a teacher in Wichita, KS in 1998 when he pleaded guilty in 1998 to having 28 grams of a substance containing crack cocaine with intent to sell! I CANNOT believe after that, he was able to get another teaching job. Absolutely incredible.
