I was there too Was 5 years old at the time but remember it like it was yestarday.I lived up on the hill on West Chicago street just down from Pinedale elementary. My father and Brother were caught up in it when they went the the local grocery store. Super dooper is where they went i think.
yeah i was there i remeber we were up on a hill and did not get flooded , think it was west st . i think , i remeber sitting out on the porch hearing people screaming , for help , seeing the fires . i remeber .
My family lived in Rapid City at the time of the flood. I'd just completed second grade at South Canyon Elementary School. The water was high on Platt Street where I lived, but we were on much higher ground than the poor souls living near Canyon Lake. I remember the devastation, the Salvation Army and Red Cross trucks passing out clean drinking water, and getting a tetanus shot. I also remember several new students in the fall who had moved to our area because their houses had been destroyed.
My grandfather died in this flood, saving people. He was in the National Guard
