Evanescence - Hello (cover)

My first Evanescence cover on YouTube!

This song goes way back for me. I remember first being introduced to this piece in 6th grade. My middle school's student council president had asked me to accompany her while she sang Evanescence's Hello for the school's talent show, and I remember how similar her voice sounded to the voice of Amy Lee's, the singer and leader of the Evanescence group. It was one of the first non-classical songs I was introduced to on the piano.

She then gave me a CD of Evanescence's "Fallen" album, which is probably one of the only albums where I can confidently say that I love every single one of the songs in that album. Which is weird because... other than Evanscence and very few other bands, I actually am not a huge fan of this music genre.

So at the beginning of this quarter I had been listening to this album again, and I came across "Hello". It was such a beautiful song that I had to make a cover of it, and I went as far as to making a trio instead of just a normal piano cover. It was originally going to be for a standard piano trio (piano, violin, and cello), but when I was notating the melody line on Finale, I had realized that the melody goes lower than a G, which is the violin's lowest note. Therefore, I had switched to the viola, and it worked perfectly. I feel as though using the viola to imitate Amy's voice suits the performance a lot better because the viola has this deep and richness in sound comparable to Amy's deep and powerful voice.


I want to thank Danny and Julia for helping me out with this amazing collaboration. We had only half an hour to rehearse for the first time and record it, and everything worked out very smoothly. Danny and Julia are actually going to Sydney, Australia today because they are members of the YouTube Symphony Orchestra! So please wish them a safe trip. I am so happy for them. :)

I also want to thank my friend, Sofia, for turning pages for me! :P


I know "My Immortal" is a much more popular song than this. One day, I will make a cover of that, so don't worry to those who want another Evanescence cover from me. :]
