(Sacramento) Legislation from Assemblymember Alyson Huber (D-El Dorado) could bring substantial benefits to veterans and a boost to the states economy. Right now only 11-percent of the eligible veterans participate in federal veterans assistance programs, well below the national average. Assembly Bill 716 would boost that participation number by requiring the Employment Development Department and the Department of Motor Vehicles to collect information from individuals that identify themselves as veterans and to transmit it to the California Department of Veterans Affairs (CDVA) so that veterans can be notified about state and federal benefits. AB 716 has been approved by the Assembly and is being considered by the Senate. Heres more in this Assembly Access video.
