Daisy and Kate are two Labradors working on honoring and being steady. Both have their AKC Senior hunt test titles. The entire training session lasted for over 30 minutes. This film is the final eight or so minutes of their session. The sound is not very loud, but if you listen carefully, the background is filled with sounds from the Gunz Up training CD.
Four remote wingers were placed out on a penisula in the pond. In this segment, Daisy retrieved a close up bumper while Kate honored. Then Kate retrieved a mallard thrown by a winger out on the peninsula while Daisy was the honor dog.
Previous to their session, Gina and Gunny worked the same routine. Gina has an AKC Master hunter title and Gunny just recently completed his Junior title.
The expectations of this training are four fold 1) remain calm, 2) be steady, 3) acquire a better understanding of patience and 4) become more responsive. Most of the session is filled with "doing nothing" which is in stark contrast to the "ready, set, go" of hunt tests.
In addition, each dog is given time to learn how to deal with adrenalin. After several sessions, a dog begins to develop the attitude that "Whenever you need someone to retrieve, I'm available." There is more to "sit" than just sitting.
