This is the first time UCLA Samahang Pilipino ever sang their theme song at the 1982 SPCN in Ackerman Grandballroom. They brought the manongs up on stage and sang this dedication to them.

Edited with archival photos of the Filipino farmworkers, the film shows what it means to "Remember all the manongs..."

  • Simply put. Thank you. DM Class of 96

  • This is a unique piece of history. Props to you for keeping it safe throughout the years and making it accessible to all of us.

  • I first heard this song when Mel & a group of Samahangers (my beloved kuyas & ates in this video) sang it to us incoming freshmen at FSP Halo-Halo Night 1984. It was a pivotal moment for me learning what both the Manongs & Samahang were all about: brothers & sisters/one family.

  • Thank you, Mel, for composing such a beautiful piece of music, and to you, Tony, Cathy & Mark for the lyrics that so eloquently pay tribute to the Manongs!

Much love & respect to the Manongs. May they rest in eternal peace.

    Mabuhay UCLA Samahang Pilipino!

  • great times Joe

  • Just got back from a reception where Singkil was performed. My 6 yr-old asked if it was on youtube and I was surprised to find this old, but fond, memory. Goosebumps!!! Not only did I see myself from 25 yrs ago, my daughter saw her uncles Joy, Art, and Dave and we got to see many college friends, too many to name. To the upperclassmen who put this together, including Mel and Tony, thanks for letting me be part of the legacy.

Peace to my brothers from other mothers!

  • Not only is Mel singing, but later that night he and I drove the Manongs back to Delano so they could sleep at Agbayani Village. Good times Mel!

  • thank you for uploading it back.

    Mel ilomin

  • And this song is still sung today and hopefully for years and years to come. This is one of the most inspirational songs ever written. When we sing this song, we truly are a part of a legacy and we impart that legacy forward.

I believe we have Eric Tandoc to thank for this beautiful video.

  • That is Mel Ilomin singing; much respect. Neil, Samahang Class of '92
