Two famous experiments by Ernest Rutherford: the transmutation of Nitrogen in to Oxygen, and the discovery of the atomic nucleus with the Gold Foil experiment.

  • what are alpha particles?

  • @KimoCollins An alpha particle is a bundle of particles made of two protons and two neutrons. It is the same thing as a helium nucleus.

  • do you know why gold was used in the experiment

  • @naruto2710 Gold can be hammered into a very VERY thin sheet. I believe this is the reason it was suited for this experiment.
