RIDGECREST, CA - Kern County firefighters and Ridgecrest police responded shortly after 4 P.M. Saturday afternoon to a structure fire in the 400 block of East Dana Avenue near College Heights in Ridgecrest.

Firefighters arrived to find the 1800 square foot single story structure approximately 50% involved in flames.
Firefighters from the Naval Air Weapons Station at China Lake were also called in to assist with the blaze.

According to neighbors, the homeowners were away for a weekend at the lake when the fire broke out.

Firefighters managed to save nearly $100,000 in property with an estimated loss of $150,000 to the structure.

No injuries were reported, although a dog did perish in the fire authorities said. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

  • This was my parents home. My dad and I went fishing in lone pine for the day, and my mom was in Lancaster. Unbelievable. My parents lost their home, and their beloved dog.

  • @FYC2011 - We're deeply sorry for your loss, your parents loss, and especially the loss of their dog. Should there be a recovery fund set up for them please notify the local newspapers and feel free to post that information here as well. All our best in the recovery process.
