My Dad who has early onset frontotemporal Dementia eating a banana with the kids talking about inappropriate language and what the word inappropriate means! Dad has frontal lobe dementia and is in his 4th year since diagnosis. He is only 60 and started showing symptoms at about 55, it took ages to get him diagnosed.

He is non verbal now, and we are not really sure how much he understands but he smiles at us heaps especially when we pick him up to go for a drive in the car. He is just so child like and cute.

Bit different from the Dad I grew up with! LOL

  • Yes that is where my dad pretty much is now. He is still walking but ploughs straight through anything in his path and its like the lights are on but no-one is home. It's very sad and happens very rapidly.

  • @ILIGANO A slow lights out sounds horrible but True from what i read of this disease. Argh to think of MY Dad as the lights are out but no one home i could kill any1 that would say as much BUT Feck me i am so hurt to see my dad like this ! WHAT a man he was and YES he is still there BUT things are different with this disease !!!!!!! aarrgghh i need more explanations more understanding ?

  • @ILIGANO, Thats horrid, Im sorry for those who must endure such things. If I am ever diagnosed with it, Ill send my brain to the science center too if they dont mind one that has a bullet path through the center.

  • Picks Syndrome ? I just lost one of my PS patients last week, he was 61 and his brain was donated to science before his body was cremated. All he could do was look out into space at the end, along with a liquid diet and skin care, this illness has no care or cure, just a slow lights out!
