There is a strong correlation between light skin color and distance from the equator. The North Pole is very far from the equator, ergo the residents are very likely to have white skin.

well actually, there is a reason that santas white. the modern santa was, in fact, invented by a cartoonist named Thomas Nast. he probably drew him white because it was 1880 and black cartoon characters most likely did no exist. so santa is white. why we cling to the creation of a random (albeit great) cartoonist i have no idea.
