Once the bin on the end of the compactor is full, it is time to switch it out for another one. This involves using the hook lift truck to pull the bin from the compactor and manually remove excess rubbish so the bin cover will fit snugly.
This full bin is then placed beside the others, ready to be taken to the landfill and emptied.

Yes, there is still a lot of fallback, even after the compactor is manually packed and rounded off for about 5 minutes after the final load. Need a bigger packer? I think so.

haha Looks like a dandy job clearing the container of excess material by hand =] I can think of some things you wouldn't want to touch when it comes to mixed waste! At the Belrose transfer station they use trailers and the real heavy duty packers which push through the trailer to avoid any fallback material when the trailer moves forward... bloody lots of power! One thing I hate about hook-lifts is that they're so slow regardless of the engine RPM - not a permanent job for me...
