The most famous of Finnish drinks is Finnish Coffee, which is also a magic trick. Apparently it's not as easy to make as it seems. But no matter what, the drink is bloody marvellous!

  • So native Finns really DO have a sense of humor. I think my grandfather left there because he loved a good laugh...like me. American Finns love their coffee too.

  • @Kavahound Unfortunately many Finns seem to take themselves way too seriously and concentrate too much on"what do they think of us". That is one reason why I can relate to your grandfather and time to time consider myself leaving this country behind. You can get used to a cold weather but coldness of people is much more difficult to bare.

Too bad you've had bad luck with people. I wouldn't say ordinary joes and janes are at all cold. Reserved, yes, but far from cold once the surprisingly thin shell of formality has been broken. Funny how Finns usually blame themselves for being "cold", but most foreigners (if not immigrants from a totally alien culture who do not respect ours) say we're warm and friendly and hospitable. Anyway, thanks for a hilarious (Finnish deadpan) take on the classic coin-coffee-kossu joke.

  • @Joonavainio

Finns are warm and kind to a foreigner, because the same rules doesn't apply to them. Finnish culture is very homogeneous and because of that Finns tend to expect certain things from their fellow countrymen. Finns who stand out from a crowd get easily disliked by Finns, because they're seen as a threat to the Finnish culture. It's ironic, because basically all the famous Finns all over the world the kind "different" Finns as well. Let's hate Mannerheim, Sibelius and Valo!

  • Tuttu tori näkyi tuossa.

  • Kuopion tori on kiva paikka. Siellä sattuu ja tapahtuu!

  • BTW, as a sculptor myself, my very favorite sculptor is Kerttu Horila...of Finland, for anyone who hasn't heard of her. I also buy from artists on etsy from Finland and all over the world.

  • LOL! who knew my comments would cause such controversy! I tend to like everyone, no matter what. Neutral is my game...very Finnish, right? And it looks like I made my point since I was taken way too seriously. Sorry about that. I still laugh at "Finnish Coffee"!

  • @Kavahound american finns? haha bullshit!

  • vittu että on paska video

  • @discasting

I'd laugh if you weren't right, in a manner of speaking. But in saying Finns tend to... you are in fact slipping yourself in the stereotypical "tend to". Yeah, there are hicks and rednecks and whatever the equivalent of juntti a Yank might use for the term. Rest assured I am just as cordial to a fellow Finn if not given reason to be otherwise.

I have my right to respect Mannerheim, Sibelius, and Valo for their achievements even if I didn't like Valo's whining voice.

  • I'm gonna use a JFK silver half dollar for this one!!

    Good lordy mercy :D

  • My Dad's side of the family has the most sense of humor (Alinen). Mom (also Finn)was the serious one, but she had a very silly brother. I can't live without a good laugh! I even draw silly cartoons. But I am an artist like you, and we need drama.
