I have been taking erhu lessons since October 2009 with Shen Qi. I am not very good at playing the erhu but I do enjoy the instrument. Shen Qi has shown tremendous patience with my admirable deficiencies. However, sadly (for me) and happily (for her) she has been contracted to play her erhu in a major production scheduled for Macau in China. Her engagement is for two years.
Today was my last lesson so I brought my camera and asked her to accompany me on my Martin backpacker guitar. Shen Qi (being a good sport as well as a fantastic musician) agreed.
Here is the result of our first collaboration... a little East meets West.

  • Beautiful musically, and so very moving. This is probably the closest anything can come to being my favorite song, consistently (it's also the first I learned on the mandolin). Best of luck to Shen Qi...

How do you like that Martin backpacker, Lew?

  • @SirCoughsalot I bought my backpacker when I used to go canoe camping. It was very easy (it lived up to its name). I don't use it a whole lot nowadays but I still like it.

  • What a wonderful collaboration! You sound pretty good on the erhu yourself, but it's great to hear it played by an expert.

  • Beautiful!
