In this screen cast we create a Vaadin based document editor application in Eclipse - from scratch, step-by-step. We start by creating and running a "Hello World" application, then add a data source and a simplified UI, learn of how to create action listeners and finally add a proper layout to the application. Then a reusable document editor component is created with the help of Vaadin WYSIWYG editor and integrated to the application.

I recorded the screencast on a flight (from Copenhagen to Prague) and thus it doesn't have audio. Might add commentary to the video in future.

  • So what is the benefit for not writing it all in JavaScript? I think it would be lot faster to write directly JavaScript because when writing it in JavaScript, you don't need to compile at all and you don't need to write Java first to get your JavaScript.

  • @RahmanSuhkur Try to write the above application in javascript and see if you can fit the result in a 9min video. Please include lazy loading, layouts and read/write to server filesystem. It would be really interesting to see how fast it could be done.

So the a nutshell - the benefit is development speed and greatly simplified development model.

  • JavaZone did put my Vaadin presentation there online. In the presentation I build the same application live. So if you want to see the same presentation live - with sound and background info - head to goo.gl / 1Vxm

  • This is a "calculating" video. =p

  • Hi, I am getting the high pitched red error message "Internal error. Please notify administrator. Take note of any unsaved data and click here to continue."

    I can't get rid of this! :-(

  • @garryfre I subscribe many tutorial, but slow tutorial makes me sleepy, his perspective of doing that speed is cool, You can pause if you want to copy the codes.

  • @f03nx please use your voice to comment all you are doing inthis video. it's not so good to watch, because I always must look at the annotations.
