Police and protesters push each other at a stand-off on the first day of the Olympics. The standoff happened on the corner of Robson and Beatty, just outside BC Place the protesters decided to charge 6 pm sharp marking the beginning of the Opening Ceremonies.
"Kind of like a family should wait to quarrel until the guests are gone, you know?"
Disagree, disagree. People in other countries are going to experience the Olympic swindle in the future, why not set a good example of how we resisted?
While not a fan of this five ring circus called the Olympics, and really worried about all the hidden bills that us taxpayers will be faced with after Feb 28, I found today's events in downtown Vancouver with breaking store windows etc really distrubing.
Oh I don't deny it's a right to march peacefully and make your voice heard. But I'm just saying they're not doing Canada's image any favors. Kind of like a family should wait to quarrel until the guests are gone, you know? But breaking and stealing private property (the souvenir store's windows and the drug store's ladder) is NOT a right. Those individuals who did the vandalism should definitely be punished or be made to pay restitution.
It called freedom of speech and assembly, I know that is part of the Us constitution and that this is Canada, btu they should be seen as universal rights.
Stupid protesters...the time for protesting is done. The Olympics are in your city now. You don't do yourselves or your country any favors with the way you are behaving.
