@joshguy64 - wrong. The fuel tank doesn't ALWAYS rupture - in fact its very rare for it to occur. I think you need to re-educate yourself on what happens in a car wreck before belittling others. It's actually extremely rare for a car to explode or burst into flames in an accident - mainly because they are DESIGNED and BUILT to prevent such a thing from happening. They do tests on the fuel tanks to make sure they're much stronger than most people think.

It's not always the Gas Tanks that rupture and cause a fire, break fluid, fuel oil, transmission fluid can also be ignighted

Oddballs son!

@firemanupton I originally was directing that comment towards someone else where I tried to tell them that older cars like the ones depicted here sometimes catch fire when the fuel tanks rupture (if at all) during an accident.
But since you are a firefighter yourself, I take back alot of what I said in that comment I posted here over a year ago, and people can go by your word instead of mine.
And I know you are not being mean, you were just trying to correct my misinformation.

@joshguy64 not being mean but the gas tanks not always rupture reason i know this is im a firefighter

not all gas tanks rupture, it almost never happens.

Most of the time a car erupts in flames, it happens b/c the radiator is damaged.
They design gas tanks to be damn near impossible to rupture. After all, if they ruptured all the time, a lot more people would be dead. There's nothing subtle about mixing fire w/ gasoline or most other fuels. The explosion it creates is phenomenal.
Watch New Zealand Fuel Tanker explosion if you don't believe me.
Fire and fuel don't mix kindly.

I used to work for the Fire Department, and the statement that a gas tank always ruptures is total BS.
If the car's going more than 30mph maybe, but cars have been in accidents going 15 to 20 mph and their gas tanks DIDN'T rupture.
We did an accident where the car was going less than 25 mph and a 3-yr. old was thrown from the car but no fire ensued.
The child wasn't wearing a seat belt, and the car was intact when we arrived.
