This was a test shoot of a scene from a proposed film, written by my friend Scott Mullins.

It was a very quick and dirty shoot, with no planning beforehand - it was shot on SD, with no professional lighting - just a couple of table lamps and whatever natural light we had on the day!

It was shot entirely against greenscreen, with the digital set (created in 3ds max) and the compositing completed in After Effects by me alone.

The directing and the editing was also my work - with a fair bit of input from Scott on both counts!

It was always intended as a test to see what was possible and what the minimum requirements would be when coming to shoot this "for real".

Scott had also planned to use this as an acting showreel for himself - while he's an experienced actor in film and TV, Dan (who plays the victim) has only acted on stage, having had no greenscreen acting experience at all!

The music was provided by a talented musician - Danny Elliott - who will also be providing some tracks for some of my upcoming productions.

The end title track, which is a snippet from the song "Closer", was performed by the fantastic Nine Inch Nails who own the rights to that track.

I am currently working on animated menus for the DVD, which will include outtakes, a behind-the-scenes documentary - and a surprise "easter egg"...! :-)

    Scott Mullins you sexy legend!!!

  • @JulieBeeable - Scott, a sexy legend....?? Do you actually KNOW the guy...?? LOL

  • This was fantastic!

    Excellent greenscreen work.

I can't wait to see what you post next.

  • Thanks Lisa! Much appreciated! :-)

It was one of the toughest challenges I had to face: no pro lighting, SD not HD, etc. - and has had one of the most rewarding responses so far! :-)

  • Good job! Great to see something from you again...Deuswatcher and I will be keeping an eye on your up and coming work.

  • Hey there! Long time no speak!

Glad ya like this - although you may like the Outtakes more...lol!

  • For being off the cuff...it works really good....stay gold

  • Thanks, Peter! Considering this was UNPLANNED, I don't think we did TOO badly...! LOL!

Under normal circumstances, I would have storyboarded and planned every shot - but we did this on the fly, on a whim...

This is only half the scene - if you knew what happened in the next half, the end of the scene would make total sense - and the close-ups would be in that part of the scene...I cannot say more than that at this stage... ;-)

    Thanks for your comment!

  • Good job guys, Nick excellent work on the effects.

I would suggest, but only my opinion! That you may want to try close up shots to add deeper feeling to tense moments.

I thought at the end it was going to do a 360 turn as the match was about to be dropped,

    Anyway good stuff

  • DUDE!!! I didn't know you were on here...!!! :-)

Erm - Jamaica...???? Is there is a REASON for that...?? LOL!

Yup - looking forward to the New Year too...oh, and ya might wanna rate this vid to generate more interest in it... ;-)
