@subarusumeragi filipino is also the demonym of the filipino people. pilipino is just the native way of saying it since the traditional philippine alphabet doesnt have the letter F. and tagalog has a unique case because tagalog is one of the thousands of dialects the philippine islands has but as a national language, "filipino" which is tagalog-based, is a mixed language with loandwords mostly of spanish origin. rarely would someone find a true tagalog speaker these days lol

First of all, Tagalog is a dialect. Pilipino with a P is the ethnicity. Filipino with an F is the language. There are other dialects such as Illocano and Kapangpangan. Tagalog is a dialect that was created merely one hundred years ago after the American-Pilipino war. to unify the country. Not a lot of people know these facts, it's mostly people who haven't been born abroad that know this. It really frustrates me when American or Canadian news sources get it wrong.
