Well, folks . . . the band behind her is "Miff Mole & His Molars."
Wealthy Indiana native Cole Porter wrote this tune in 1929. He included a line that should be remembered by all smug, self-satisfied Americans when they travel abroad . . . "When we brag about our liberty, and they LAUGH at you and you and you and me---50 Million Frenchmen Can't Be Wrong!"

It was an impulse purchase at a local thrift store that turned me on to Sophie, I had heard her name in the movie "Chicago" and was curious. She is amazing, and it turns out she grew up in Hartford, CT. I was raised not too far from there

Did you use any special software or equipment to get the song to play so clean and quiet?
I'm so sad today that when I was about 23 years old and my Dad asked if I wanted to at least take a few of his old records home with me that I stood by instead and watched him throw away boxes and boxes of all kinds of 78's from the 30's, 40's and 50's and didn't bother keeping a single one.

Would love to see that number Sophie does in Broadway Melody of 1938. She talks about what the way things used to be and the standards that should be upheld. Just fantastic. What a movie that was. Sophie and Judy in the same movie and they were both terrific.

This song is the basis for the "50,000,000 Elvis Fans Can't Be Wrong" album name. It's the one with the famous gold lame suit.

Go Sophie (tin pan Alley
Her entire career Sophie dressed to kill. Even as an older, bigger lady she always epitomized elegant fashion. She was extremely generous to good causes and when she toured she had great friends waiting for her in every city, friends she'd made on previous visits. She was an exceptional cook and loved to come to people's homes to make Sunday dinner for everyone to enjoy. Her show, once considered so very naughty, today seems nearly innocent. But not quite!
