In This video I show the various CFL Grow Lights that I have used the past few years and compare. They are all from local stores such as Menards and Home Depot. I mention the prices and light output for each. I also show hydroponic tomatoes that are a little over 2 weeks old. The largest bulb I show is the maximum length that the fixture can hnadle that I built in a previous video.

My work in progress: http://www.tomorrowsgarden.net/

Buy your veggie seeds now guys. It's cheap insurance. The stuff on the store shelves may not always be there.

  • if the lumens is what it is, u cant just add more lights, that doesn't increase the amount of candle power or lumens, not u but in regards to saying people use a bunch of little bulbs... that wont do the trick

  • @themutherfunkinDme Right, 3 bulbs at 5,000 lumens is not 15,000 lumens...it's just 3 bulbs at 5,000 each.

  • I have been trying to learn about hydrophonics and indoor growing. I love gardening and I do plant a lot of vegetables during spring. It saves me a lot of money because of the harvest I get for just so little money I spend on my seeds. But in hydrophonics, dont u spend more money on maintaining it? U spend a lot of electricity due to the lights and the pumps u used. Arent we planting because we want to go green? Can someone enlighten me? Maybe I am not seeing the clearer picture in hydrophoni

  • @mistergorio It can be expensive but you'll have a fresh tomato in the middle of Winter. Aquaponics is a better solution because you get the nutrients for free from the fish. I'm pretty much using HPS and Metal Halide lights no because they cover a bigger area and save on the electric compared to many CFL. CFL is great for just a few plants though. It is fun though.

  • can you use 2 68 watts to grow tomatoes and bell peppers

  • @mrsmagandelatour Bell peppers yes and tomatoes you should do a micro variety like Tiny Tim. I don't suggest growing under CFL bulbs for indeterminate tomatoes. Tiny Tim is compact and produces plenty in a limited space.

  • Quick question.I saw that you have built a reflective wall around the back shelf, how has that helped.and i see that you made a tote into a a hydroponic system.would you want to expalin how.Im a newat this and i got the BURPEE self watering seed kit and wanted to know how you did yours.Hope you can help.

  • so does this apply to weed

  • Lithuania ? wow

  • @SleestaksRule Completely wrong. Study more before lecturing. Lumens is a measurement of the total amount of light emitting from a source. Intensity x angle of radiation. More lumens is more visible light, and you will want a minimum of 2.500 lumens per sq.ft for growing. Preferrably >4000. What you are thinking of is probably light penetration, wich is only a problem for newbies, since you can easily place a few of your many independent CFL's underneath the canopy.

  • you should grow some pot bro. you would probably have a lot of fun and get some great product.

  • @TheIronicIdiot CFL bulbs have their ballast in the base. That's why they cost so much compared to the old bulbs.

  • I have been getting more interested in indoor growlights since my 'great idea to bring my tomatos and herbs in for winter" idea blew up in my face over a 2 month period with friends and family watching lol i got my plants living more than sunlight thru the window off a 24" 15w plant and fish fluorescent bulb set on the edge of the pot. reading i thought 48"fluorescent tubes was the best and cheapest way to do fluorescent indoor growing. why do you prefer CFL? thanks for your video and insight :)

  • ive been reading the comments i thought you was speaking in code, then i actually looked at the video....and you aint..
