The story makes much more sense, though, with one plane relative to a fixed target. A Boeing speed is maybe 500, or 600 MPH, but even if you take a max speed of 768 MPH, it would take at least 1 and a half minutes to cover 20 miles.

So the airliner and the fighter were 50 miles apart and flying towards each other. Later they were 30 miles apart. How long would that take? Add the speeds of both planes (airliner=about 500 MPH, jet figher=900 MPH to 1500 MPH max) and you get a combined speed between 1400 and 2000 MPH. That means it would take only 36 to 52 seconds to cover 20 miles. I can't imagine how the young man came in, gave Cheney an update, left the room, entered "later" for the next update, ALL in 36 to 52 sec.

Have you considered that the '50/30/10' miles out was in reference to the RELATIVE distance between the fighter jet and the flight over Shanksville? You seem to be assuming that it MUST be based on a FIXED ground target -- rather than a moving air target.

One thing we can be sure of is that the 911 commission report was DEAD WRONG in suggesting that cheney did not arrive in the PEOC until 9:58. This assertion is at odds with the combined testimonys of david borher, richard clarke, norman mineta, condoleeza rice, karl rove, ABC, the BBC, the wall street journal, and even dick cheney himself (in at least one interview)!
