I want to use a dynamic mic for my guitar amp and a condenser for vocals, both at the same time. Would I need a mixer to run them through and then connect that mixer to the computer or can I connect them both straight to the computer? And if so, what cables do I need? thanks!

Question!......I have reason 5 on my computer...and I love having that "feel" of knobs and faders....I was wondering if I were to get a usb Mixer like the one in your video....will I be able to run that throught reason 5??....instead of digital...in other words...I would like to use a acutal mixer instead of my reason 5 virtual mixer...will that work for me???!....I really like your mixer

@prruger The mixer is definitely not necessary. However, depending on the latency of your interface you could use it for monitor mixes for your performers. Also, if you find yourself multi-miking sources (guitar cabs for example) you could record the individual channels and a bus with the combination. Sometimes using the bused track can help reduce options and simplify mixing. Provided you have spent the time to get a good balance at record time.

Is it important to have the foam right behind the monitors like you have ? ( anyone, feel free to answer. )

Hey Joe Keep it coming man been a registered HSC member for 2 years now and its the best "Project Studio" website in the country hands down. (Nice setup by the way) I think young engrs, breath a sigh of relief when you show a, not so complex project studio setup. Hard to believe all that good sound/knowledge/music comes from a log cabin room lol. To all young engrs let me point out its never the equipment its the man behind it. Two thumbs up for Joe
Here's a hard question for me, hopefully you might have a suggestion since you have a similar setup to mine. When I started my studio, I recorded everything on my external digital mixer. Now I run a few DAW's and they pretty much take care of all parts of production. What advantage would you say throwing the external mixer into the production again would give and how. Pre-mix, mastering? What do you think?

@prruger Mixers aren't really that necessary. If you're having to ask whether you need one, you probably don't need one.

I can't foam my room like that so I put a box over my head with foam inside and close the lid under my chin while I record into the mic.
Is that good?

@ArtificialInfinity Hi...I honestly can't tell if you're joking or not, but I would imagine a box on your head wouldn't work very well. I've heard of people putting a box around the MIC to help with reflections. Sometimes that can work.
