At least a thousand members of the Alberta Carpenters Unions Local 1325 and 2103 packed Edmonton and Fort McMurray hotels Wednesday night. After 7000 members voted 97 percent in favor of strike. The strike is a result of the three largest building trades unions in Alberta. Effectively being forced into contract arbitration by the contractors owners group after dirty tricks and Me Too deals with the little trades. The three unions Carpenters, Electricians, and UA Pipefitters which combined make up 81 percent of the building trades members in Alberta are prevented from striking individually. Instead they are bound by law to trade groups. Which the Carpenters intend to take to the Supreme Court of Canada. The 105 year old Carpenters Local 1325 is the longest chartered trade union in Alberta making it older than the Province and the city of Edmonton.

  • Does anybody knw whop can hire me as an apprentice?

  • Hey alexvlk I dont know why you disagree with unions BUT I see a fair wage, Benifits, and help me get a trade. Without unions fighting for us things would be like they are back on the rock. I basicly losed a job because a friend of the manager overheard me talking to a friend about Fort Mac miss heard me, and told the manager some "BS". Now I have no money coming in, No job B/c the manager has "friends". UNIONS might seem hardcore but that less they are there fighing for us.

  • Dude, You care about your son. Although I disagree with unions, I appreciate your love for your son, and I'm not even remotely kidding. I will probably remember this little quote of your for a lifetime. Seriously, something as simple as hockey. Gosh. No sarcasm is intended. Unfortunately the printed word does not convey emotions very well.

  • This is really big of you. And you are right this is IMP. and name calling was wrong. I didnt pick up on your ironic pts. I just sick of hearing we are in the wrong when I working 65 hours/week and I still cant afford to put my son in hockey. again sorry for the dumb ass name calling.

  • I was being ironic, thus the heavily facetious part of my first comment. I picked something very outrageous to say, and thought that I laid my joking intentions on fairly thick, but guess I didn't get the point across.

My stepdad is a union worker, and I really do appreciate conglomerates of workers getting together to make a difference, like in a strike.

    My name isn't Jeremy Halcote.

I'm not a fag. I'm not holding anything against you here. Just know calling names never fixed anything.

  • Real Union doing Real work!!!!!! Stop screwing government. We vote you in we can vote you out. local 1325

  • Hey Jeremy keep on drawing you fag....You'll never make in the real world. This are real men and women trying to get paid a real dollar so we can feed our kids. If it wasnt for people like these you wouldnt have the money to pay for the paper you draw on asshole.

  • Since I have no idea how the real world works, this totally looks like a bunch of people, all being lazy at the same time.

  • Right on brothers! a shout out from local 488

  • Union Today, Union Tomorrow, Union Until I Die!

We're with you Brothers and Sisters
