When you think about the scene when this plays, there is GREAT reason to shit your pants. Aang is connected with the Ocean Spirit, and he creates this massive fish monster hundreds of feet tall to completely repel the Fire Navy. But the scary part should be the realization that this "monster" is a sentient embodiment of the ocean.
The OCEAN ITSELF wants them gone.

Honesty time: The Ocean Spirit was the ONLY thing in the entire show that really truly frightened me, a 27 y.o. male. The main reason for that is because I have a sincere fear of the ocean. Not so much looking at it, or sailing on it with a boat, but bathing and looking directly into the wet abyss makes my very soul turn cold.
And it all started with a 6 year old boy who went swimming on the beach one day, then took his head underwater and looked towards the open sea... and saw only darkness.
