The film is so convincingly written that it's hard to imagine that it even had a script.
The trouble with filmmaking is that only the profitable ideas tend to get produced... I think there would be more films as good as, even better, than Citizen Kane if the studios took bigger risks and gave more directors complete creative freedom.

if i could prefix in latin to supurlarise this film as the rest of you have i would... otherwise i'd say "yeah it's alright... if you like this sort of thing..."

mattleematlee has nailed this film on the head. I have already paid homage to it on this site but nothing can adequately express my admiration for this film. As a movie buff for many years who has an interest in world cinema, I have to say that no country has produced a work as amazing as Citizen Kane, the cinematic equivalent of Shakespeare, Dante, Cervantes et al .

Groundbreaking doesn't even come close. Everything that could ever be done in any film was done in Kane. It's so far ahead of it's time (still) that one can only watch and gawk. It's odd, off kilter, scary, deep, huge, unique...there is Kane, then there's everything else. The greatest film of all time, with the greatest American actor/director of all time, Orson Welles.
