Hey Guys,
I was so anxious to get right into the Reset Glitch hack that I researched the powering of the CK3i. My Molex power supply isn't scheduled to get here till tomorrow and last night I just wanted to play!

I assumed that is was powered by 5 volts, but you and I both know that assumptions can go very wrong. hah

  • You know what Jonny. I made this cable and when I went to power the drive it would not work. Nor would it eject. :( The lights work but this was a fail.

  • @avenged06x Kind Sir, unfortunately the 5V "wire in" will not power the 12V motor that spins the drive's gears. You need to have "both" 5 volts and 12 volts to have the "drive" part of Ck3i work. I did explain this at 1:30. You need 12volts to power your drive. The purpose of this little vid was to inform a user that they could use the 5volt USB "wire-in" to enable the Ck3i's programming for the NAND-X update to Firmware Revision 3.0 for flashing the Coolrunner timing file.

  • Did it. But soldered a male molex connector into the end. Works good!

  • @avenged06x Awesome, man! :)

  • Why not use old molex plug and solder usb cable to it. Thats how i power my old ck3

  • @MrJelle2503 I would have if I had one. I didn't have any Molex connectors laying around :/ Thanks for your comment :)

  • I did buy a USB to molex cable with my ck3i but still like this tut. I doubt it's just mine, but the ck3i molex receiver feels very flimsy. When I go to plug into it, I'm waiting for it to break. This mod would eliminate that. My problem is that my eject function doesn't work. It powers drives right up. So I don't know what the deal is. @MultiBondx it sounds like the power switch is bad and the unit is always getting power. These aren't heavy duty and the parts aren't made of high end material.

  • Could you install the Coolrunner with a laptop? I looked at the picture for the bundle and there was a cord that I didn't recognize. Is it necessary?

  • Hey I just emailed the people I got it from so maybe they will be able to help some.Hopful?

If not This is what I got just a ac 4pin molex 110v-230v w/ac wall 3 prone power adapter cable for 110v. No solder liteon DG-16D2S using a probe3 extractor.

  • @MultiBondx Hmmm, this is interesting. So the light stays green...I wonder what's up with the device.

What power supply are you using now? Did you order the Molex power supply with the CK3i. I hope it's not a damaged micro-controller due to power problems.

I don't own the x360USB Pro or the probe, so I haven't done my research on what voltages are used to power those devices.

let me know how you have the CK3i powered and let me know if you do the USB solder-in.
