It seems like a long, long time ago but we turned up some footage yesterday of the last day of the campaign in Barking & Dagenham back in May, when the BNP were driven out of the Council Chambers by the Hope Not Hate campaign.
Since their 12 councillors were elected in 2006, HOPE Not Hate has led the way in the borough and with community groups, schools and on the estates in driving home the message that the BNP were bad for Barking and Dagenham. Over one million pieces of literature, school activities, residential breaks for young people and of course the Hope Not Hate football tournament at the Town Show drove home the message that there was a progressive opposition to the BNP in B&D that was there to stay.
Here on Polling Day, the Daily Mirror/Hope Not Hate bus travels the borough, bumping into the BNP some of their suporters, but also lots and lots of people who supported the mesage of Hope Not hate and recognised that famous slogan delivering hope against the BNP.
