Energizing Morning Yoga Routine

This is a slow start yoga sequence designed to energize the body first thing in the morning. Start your day off right with sun salutations and twists!
Note: In Chaturanga I am taking the knees modification. The knees modification is great for building strength in the triceps preparing you for proper alignment in traditional Chaturanga Dandasana. You are welcome to take whatever variation is in your regular practice.
Have no idea what I just said? No worries, the video is enough visual and audio cueing to help anyone through the routine. The more you practice yoga the easier it will flow. Flexibility and strength will come.

Totally love this morning routine, and your bedtime routine as well, thank you so much for uploading these. I am quite unflexible at the minute, if I do this routine and the bedtime routine on a daily basis, how long roughly will it take to see improvements in my flexibility?

Every body's body is different, but with daily practice you should totally start seeing improvements soon! Take some pictures of yourself in a couple basic poses and after practicing daily for a couple weeks take the pictures again and you should see progress :) Be patient with the really sticky/stiff areas of your body, it might take a couple months to convince your hamstrings or (insert body part here) to open up but it's totally worth the journey!

Just tried this for the first time today. As I only started Yoga last week, I'm still very unflexible and out of shape and had to bend knees alot so as not to over strain, but I feel sooo good after this routine and will practice every morning until I get it perfected. Thank you so much for posting this. Any vids for people who are overweight but very determined to practice twice a day every day to get the flexibility?

Hi Steve, I have a "Yoga for Flexibility" and a "Yoga for Hamstring Flexibility" video that will help but really, practicing yoga every day is how you're going to get the fastest results. Just find sequences that you enjoy and keep practicing :) Flexibility will come, for now just explore how the poses fit in your body today

Make sure that you're moving with proper posture otherwise you could end up compromising your lower back, especially in the twisting. Focus on lengthening your spine before your focus on twisting. Also, if you're hamstrings are tight then keep a gentle bend in your knees during the forward folds. Take it easy the first couple times you practice and soon you'll start "feeling" the poses in you body, then you can move deeper. feel better!
